Chapter 3

When she got home at her new house Kendall said.

“Welcome home do you want to see your bedroom?”

Sarah got scared because she was hoping not the attics, basement or the room by the stairs.

“It not the basement is it Daddy?”

Kendall bend down.

“I promise you it not the basement.”

Sarah wheeled in and couldn’t believe her eyes it was a Cinderella themed bedroom. Kendall smiled.

“Grandma worked so hard in doing this for you. I have to add, after raising three boys she finally got her girl-a granddaughter.”

Kent came in.

“What you think Grandma did good?”

Sarah transferred herself out of the wheelchair and sat on the bed and laid back and felt comfortable for the first time.

“Much better than my old beds.”

then sat up and said.

“Grandma is the perfect fairy godmother.”

Kathy hugged Sarah and said.

“I heard that.”

Sarah giggled.

Then she sat in the living room and noticed a frame on the lamppost of her Dad with a beautiful young lady about 14.

“Daddy who the young lady next to you?”

Kendall sighed he didn’t know how to explain to Sarah but decided to tell her as he was fighting back tears but instead he let the tears go since the young lady was his first love and the pain never went away after her death he took this loss hard.

“That young lady was your mother.”

At the line Your mother Sarah dropped the frame on the floor it didn’t break. She was shocked and she teared up a bit but really composed herself as she hugged him and she wipe his tears.

“Don’t cry, Daddy.”

Kathy was concerned at first when Sarah dropped the frame but then she couldn’t believe how well Sarah handle this for a three year old.

“We’ll get through this together ok?”

Kendall smiled as he replied.

“Ok.”

Sarah asked.

“What was her name?”

Kendall replied.

“Ashley.”

So Sarah learned about her Mom until she finally asked the real question.

“What happened to her?”

Kendall braced himself.

“After you were born Mommy’s heart basically stopped.”

Sarah said.

“I guess God needed her.”

Then she asked.

“Do you think she’s proud of me?”

Kendall hugged her.

“Are you kidding, Sarah you are her world. She and I were so looking forward to meeting you! So she is very proud of you, Princess.”

Kathy teared up a bit as she was so proud of her son and how well he handled this situation.

Later that night Sarah walked in her walker to Kendall’s room where Kendall was reading.

“Hey Baby, what do you need?”

Sarah put the book on the bed and said.

“Would you read to me?”

The book was The Night Before Christmas and Kendall got her on the bed and started to read.

“Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house

Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,

In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads;

And mamma in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap,

Had just settled down for a long winter's nap,

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,

I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.

Away to the window I flew like a flash,

Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow

Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below,

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,

But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer,

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,

I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.

More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,

And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;

"Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!

On, Comet! on Cupid! on, Donder and Blitzen!

To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!

Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!"

Once he was done, Kendall looked down and sees Sarah fast asleep as she held him lovingly as he turned off the light he whispered.

“Sweet Dreams, Angel.”
