Chapter 5
In music class it was broadway week. After everyone sang it was Selena's turn as she was about to sing I Dreamed a Dream from Les Miserables.
"There was a time when men were kind,
And their voices were soft,
And their words inviting.
There was a time when love was blind,
And the world was a song,
And the song was exciting.
There was a time when it all went wrong...
I dreamed a dream in time gone by
When hope was high and life, worth living
I dreamed that love would never die,
I dreamed that God would be forgiving.
Then I was young and unafraid,
And dreams were made and used and wasted.
There was no ransom to be paid,
No song unsung, no wine, untasted.
But the tigers come at night,
With their voices soft as thunder,
As they tear your hope apart,
And they turned your dreams to shame.
He slept a summer by my side,
He filled my days with endless wonder...
He took my childhood in his stride,
But he was gone when autumn came!
And still I dream he'll come to me,
That we will live the years together,
But there are dreams that cannot be,
And there are storms we cannot weather!
I had a dream my life would be
So different from this hell I'm living,
So different now from what it seemed...
Now life has killed the dream I dreamed..."
Everyone was amazed by her expressions for each lines as she sang the song.
Once she was done the teacher had a surprise for Selena and to share with the class.
"Selena's mom was one of my students and she sang the exact song that her daughter sang."
Selena watched the video with amazement as she couldn't believe this was her mother she had goosebumps from the very beginning from the first note.
As the video was over the teacher asked.
"So what did you think?"
One of Selena's classmates, Aubrey said.
"Now we all know where Selena gets her voice from her mom."
Kendall could see that Selena was having a hard time keeping her emotions together Selena break down in tears in front of her class after all these years of trying to hold back her pain and grief for so long since the video took the best out of her as she quietly said.
"Mommy come back please bring Daddy too!!!!!!!"
As everyone watched as Kendall, James, Carlos and Logan tried to calm her he said.
"Your Mom is so proud of you with your performance it came from the heart."
The entire class started to applaud at Kendall's statement.
After class the teacher took Selena aside and said.
"I'm so sorry, Selena I thought you would might enjoy seeing your mother's performance."
Selena said.
"I did. I guess my emotions couldn't embrace the video. One minute I was amazed the next I am frustrated of how the accident took away my mother and father." she paused. "I guessed I have forgotten how beautiful my Mom's voice truly was as I recalled how she used to sing me to sleep and this song was one of them."
The teacher was speechless as she teared up along with James, Logan, Carlos and Kendall for they now know the truth as they were impressed that she opened up for the first time in years about her pain she hid.
Selena continued.
"The last two stanza pretty much describe how I feel everyday whenever I see a parents with their child. You know, the lines.
And still I dream he'll come to me,
That we will live the years together,
But there are dreams that cannot be,
And there are storms we cannot weather!
I had a dream my life would be
So different from this hell I'm living,
So different now from what it seemed...
Now life has killed the dream I dreamed...
I know i'm not going through hell but I feel empty and the accident took away my dreams in hoping that one day they'll come back and see me grow up. I held on to this dream ever since I was three and I was always positive as "I still I dream they'll come to me,
That we will live the years together." but as I got older I realized that "Now life has killed the dream I dreamed" when I truly realized they will never come back."
The stanza did truly fit her emotions and the teacher quietly said.
"Can I share this with the class tomorrow?"
Selena replied. "Yes."
